As a woman guided by Persephone and Demeter energy, you grew up feeling like you needed to make other people happy. To outsiders, you may appear innocent and naive; however, you like have a much darker side that many people don’t get to see. Accessing this energy within yourself can lead to tremendous growth.

You are a creative, free-spirit with a heart for nurturing and helping others. As a sensitive soul, you’ve also relied heavily on the support of loved ones for most of your life. You are attracted to the creative arts, teaching and anything that allows for self-expression. Friends and family may describe you as warm, sensitive and a bit quirky. Beneath the playful charm that you express around others is a deep sense of self and strong awarness of the unconscious needs and desires of others. You’re extremely empathetic and guided by your strong moral values.

While you have a good awareness of your own feelings and the feelings of others, you lack the internal drive and motivation to put yourself out there in ways that could lead to tremendous success and happiness. This is where accessing your motivational Athena energy is key. Athena energy is determined and focused on getting what it wants. Honoring this energy in yourself will help bring more balance to your life and help you access your opposing Aphrodite energy.

Aphrodite represents a balance of the indenpendent and relational archetypes. As someone who has relied heavily on either supporting or being supported by others, this energy is your greatest challenge, but also represents an extraordinary opportunity for growth.

The Diplomat

  • Guided by Demeter energy (dominant feeling)
  • Supported by Aphrodite energy (supported intuition)
  • Motivated by Artemis energy (functions flipped, ISTP)
  • Opposed by Hera energy (opposite functions, ISTJ)

As a woman guided by Demeter energy and supported by Aphrodite energy, you are relationship-focused and creative. Your people-first approach to life makes you popular among others and a strong leader. You are a nurturer and a caretaker, but you put your own unique spin on your relationships. You seek to help those you love to learn and understand from the things that are personally meaningful and influential to you. You desire to help your loved ones grow to reach their fullest potential. People view you as compassionate, charismatic and upbeat. Your diplomatic attitude and openness to new perspectives make you someone who’s easy to get along with while remaining strong-willed and assertive.

Your strong sense of responsibility for others may at times leave you feeling overloaded and burned out. With supportive Aphrodite energy, you may struggle with being resentful toward your children or those you care for during periods of burnout. This bitterness can lead to spontaneous spending, drinking or other types of overindulgence that you later regret. This is where developing your weaker Artemis and Hera energy becomes essential.

Discovering your Artemis energy will help you realize your deepest inner wants and needs and concentrate on what is truly important to you, while Hera energy honors your commitments and keeps you from swaying toward overindulgence when your exhausted from putting everyone else first. Accessing Hera energy is your biggest challenge because it requires a focus on what others truly want — not what you think they want (or think they should want). However, accessing this part of yourself is a huge potential for growth, both personally and in your relationships.

  • Opposed by Hestia energy (opposite functions, ENFJ)

As a person guided by Hera and Artiemis energy, you are a paradox of both relational and independent. You are a loyal and committed partner, parent and friend, but you also require enough time for yourself — and you set boundaries to get that alone time. Balancing these often conflicting needs requires discipline, which is why you prefer to stick to a routine rather than play it by ear. Your friends and family may know you as a “no nonsense” planner, yet dispite your seriousness in getting things done, you’re equally recognized for the undying devoted you have for your loved ones. At the end of the day, your relationships matter most.

You can easily get lost in the details of day-to-day life. Between taking care of your loved ones, managing a hectic work schedule and/or working toward the high goals you set for yourself, you may not have enough energy left for creative pursuits. However, accessing your creative Aphrodite energy is your biggest potential for growth. Repressing this energy can result in bitterness or depression. Finding outlets to express yourself, like photography, music or writing, will bring more balance and peace into your life.

Your greatest growth challenge lies in your opposing Hestia energy. It may also be a source of conflict in your relationships with others, particularly those who are guided by Hestia energy. You are a doer — even your alone time is often spent planning. Hestia requires quiet, unplanned time to explore the crevices of yourself, which is likely unfamiliar territorty. However, once Hestia energy is accessed (perhaps though meditation, yoga or alone time in nature), you can unlock tremendous opportunity for personal growth.

You are relationship-oriented and seek happiness in bonding with and taking care of other people. Family, or the friends you call your family, are what you cherish most on earth. Above all, you are a nurturer and caretaker of others. You may be known as the “mom friend” in your inner circle. You’re always there when a loved one needs practical guidance or supportive advice and those closest to you view you as caring, reliable and honest.

As a wife and mother, you may put your family above your career and personal aspirations. Your strong sense of responsibility and tendency to put others first may leave you feeling overloaded and burned out. While in this state, you may appear overbearing or overly protective of others. Prioritizing your inner needs and finding fulfillment outside of your relationships is essential for true growth and fulfillment.

As a woman with strong Demeter and Hera energy, your greatest potential for growth is in developing your Artemis energy. Discovering this part of yourself will help you realize your deepest inner wants and needs and concentrate on what is truly important to you — not everyone around you. You may find Hestia energy challenging to recognize in yourself and to deal with in others.

As a person focused on other people, it’s hard to relate to energies that are so centered on the self. However, once Hestia energy is accessed (perhaps though meditation, yoga or alone time in nature), you can unlock tremendous opportunity for personal growth.

The Idealist

The Alchemical Archetype

Aphrodite, goddess of love, “The Lover”

As the alchemical goddess, Aphrodite shares some similarities with the other two categories, yet she is different from both.

For her, relationships are important as with the relational goddesses, but not as long-term commitments. Instead, she seeks to consummate relationships. She tends to have unlimited creative talents.

At the same time, she is able to focus on what is personally meaningful to her and to becomes totally absorbed in it, like the independent goddesses.

Aphrodite’s magic consists in being fully present in what she does and who she is with. She gives those around her the feeling of being special.

On the less positive side, Aphrodite women easily fall in an out of love. They may act on sexual desire without considering the consequences. They either enjoy being the center of attention and the sense of power that comes with their sensuality, or they judge themselves harshly for those characteristics.

Relational Archetypes

The Relational Archetypes

Persephone, goddess of the underworld, “The Maiden”

Persephone’s job is to be a good girl and please others. Persephone’s playfulness and innocent way of looking at the world gives her an air of being unaffected and a special charm which calls for being taken care of although she may miss sexual passion.

Because she often lacks direction and individual drive, Persephone has the most possible routes for growth among all the goddess archetypes.

This type of woman has a natural understanding of the unconsciousness in human psyche. If she evolves, she can bring important healing to others.

Demeter, goddess of grain and agriculture, “The Mother”

A Demeter woman carries a deep longing for becoming pregnant with her own child. Then she lives solely for them and even experiencing life through them.

If a Demeter woman cannot become a biological mother, she is deeply wounded and struggles all her life to find meaning and purpose.

A woman with strong Demeter influence is almost incapable of saying ‘no’ to others, and therefore has the tendency to burnout through taking on too many tasks. She has a strong sense of responsibility.

When she ignores her boundaries, her psychological health may deteriorate. Her strongest shadow side can appear in the relationship with her children. With the intention of protecting them, she may become over-controlling.

Hera, goddess of marriage, “The Queen”

Women high in Hera energy are really relationship-oriented and good at making commitments. Hera’s full focus consists in not only finding a partner or mate, but in finding a man who is ready for commitment and marriage.

Hera’s obsession with finding fulfillment only within marriage often limits her own individual growth and potential.

Only if she manages to bring her attention to inner realms and other forms of motivation and satisfaction – like the independent goddesses – will a Hera woman grow beyond these negative behaviour patterns. When she does this, she will find peace and balance on her own, as well as within a relationship.

The Independent Archetypes

Feminine archetypes contain important insights into female psychology. These women are fractures of a whole complete woman; seven varieties of female energy, each with their own unique areas of focus.

Represented this way, it allows women to understand and affirm their strengths, and to cultivate our missing (or “recessive”) female energies to help support personal growth.
